i have a 2002 bayliner capri 175. it has a blown 3.0 liter mercruiser engine, and my question is, will an older complete 3.0 liter engine from 1987 , fit in boat and bolt up too newer outdrive? i plan on putting in a brand new engine when i can, but for now i have access to this rebuilt great running 87 engine, and hope it can work. does anyone have any info to share with me about this? thanks

I think as in the SBCs there is an issue of one or 2 piece rear main seal. Leading to a difference in the crankshaft bolt pattern for the flywheel and coupler.

Hopefully someone will chime in with more accurate info. However other then the stated problem I believe them to be close enough. are you sure it's a 3.0?

Re: can this work in my 2002 bayliner

i would only get a new engine if needed. im hoping this will do the job for a while. i just want somthing reliable. this is my first boat. im learning as i go. im saving alot of money if i go with this engine. my original 2002 engine is in brand new condition except previous owner did not winterize it and it cracked at the block . is there much of a performance difference between the newer and older 3.0. liter engines?

where's the crack ( up near the cylinder head say within 1-2" or down lower closer to the oil pan? )

how big is the crack? Long ?? 2" 10" ?

If not that bad, you can typically repair the crack in the boat and run for MANY MANY years !!!

thats one good thing about Inline 4 & 6 Engines VS the V6 & V8's.

none

If frozen, you might need a manifold more than an engine.

as mentioned, you can search these forums- there are a few success stories of welded. epoxied, and leaking 3.0's pulling skiers and tubes around for years.

LOTS if you are using the late 8 port head as they are VASTLY superior, like comparing a V6/V8 Vortec to a earlier non-Vortec head
