I have a 1991 120 hp Johnson. The trim and tilt doesn't work. I need to lift the motor to try and fix it. I backed off the manual relief valve but I cannot
lift or drop the motor any more than it is, (about 90 % down but not touching the trim shafts) Does anyone have any suggestions?
One more thing - I just purchased the repair manual for the 1074-1991 motors and the pictures of the tilt and trim system looks nothing like mine. Did they use different packages? model number is VJ120TLAIE

Do yourself a favor and get an OEM shop manual and sell the 3rd party one you have.

Yep, Tilt can freeze up. I recently found myself with a failed trim and tilt motor. You could hit the button and "Click" is all she said. So I was this close... I mean ready to disconnect and disassemble because the manual shows you how to strip it down and clean it up. In my mind no big deal. So like I said I was this close to doing it when ,,, Not really the right thing to do but.... I got a fairly large hammer and "Wacked" it a couple times on 4 sides.

Guess what. It's been working very well since.

I'll try that. it will make me feel better anyway.
but it probably means corrosion somewhere if that works.

Thanks
