Criteria:
Age 21-28
Blond, Strawberry Blonde or Dark Blonde
Blue or Green eyes
5'5" or taller
Healthy weight range for your height
Non-smoker
No drug history

If you do not match this criteria, please do not resond. The criteria is specific to look similar to the mother.

If you're interested, please respond with a photo. The photo will only be viewed by the couple and then discarded. This will be a completely anonymous process and you will never meet the couple and your privacy will be protected on every level.

Am I really, sincerely the only one that thinks that people who really want to become parents would be happy to have a child, any child?

How shallow have we become?

Lets say for example that these two people could be the best parents in the history of the world. Lets say they're the most loving, most compassionate people you've ever met. Lets say everyone really feels bad for them not being able to have a child. Lets say they're loved by everyone in their church, neighborhood, forums whatever. Ok, everyone likes them and wants to help them out whatever way they can.

Now, this same couple has a chance to be parents. They get that chance to have this egg harvested and they're really going to get their chance. They're so happy, so overjoyed.

But wait...

It can't be just any egg because it has to have the best chance of being blonde, red-blonde or dark blonde. It can't have black or brown eyes. It has to have blue or green eyes.

That to me is extremely selfish. Maybe they're selfish people. Selfish people rarely make good parents. If you want children, look at the miracle of the child, not its physical appearance.

THIS IS NOT BUYING A BOAT OR CAR for pete's sake!

What I'm trying to get across is, you want a child? You want to be parents? GREAT! I'm sorry, but you shouldn't try to PICK your child's genes. Normal parents don't know whats hidden in our genes. We may get a kid with downs syndrome or something worse. We may get a kid that looks like my great uncle bob with the hair coming out of his ears. Do I love the child any less? NO. Could I POSSIBLY love the child any more? NO.

I guess I just know too many people who would love to have a child and cant and can't afford to adopt and can't afford these expensive surgeries and who wouldn't think about trying to limit the type of child they received.

Just a symptom of the selfishness of society (any society) I'm afraid.

When this couple got together they made those choices you are harping on about Valkyr. So whats the big deal with making the same choices again.

Just because they are finacialy in a position to make this choice does that make them selfish? of course not. It probably makes them hard working and motivated.

Yes I can believe it.
What is wrong with wanting to have a baby that looks like both parents?
They do not discuss anything beyond good health of the donor and hair and eye color.
They did not mention anything like Nobel prize winners only and all the other risks like down syndrome are still very possible.
They are not looking for a surrogate mother with all the required prerequisites.
The couple hopes for a child that is as similar to them as possible given the obviously sad circumstances.
Give them a break!!!

Valkyr, I don't see a problem with it, really. They want an egg, not a child. The egg will have dominant and resessive genes. There is no way of knowing what the child will look like unless you go back several generations on BOTH sides and chart the history of the offspring. They just want to have as natural of a birthing process as possible, and have a child that would probably look like them, if THEY could conceive.

Maybe not the most "normal" way of getting pregnant and having a baby, but I understand their desires. Right now my wife and I are looking into adoption. We have some criteria for the child we hope to adopt, does that make us selfish? I would hope not, we feel we are looking out for the best interests of the child.

Nothing wrong with their request. Same as people who go to adoption agency and want a baby with the same ethnic background as the parents. Nothing wrong with that at all. In fact, it is good for the child.

Many people pick a spouse because of their looks, knowing those looks will translate to the kids. Nothing wrong with picking an egg to fit that either. If your gonna cough up 5 grand for an egg, might as well make it the color you want. Kind of weird to advertise that on Craigslist.

Let me (try to) clarify my stance a little further.

There has been some very good points brought up here about brains versus looks, about trying to mix the best of genes to get the "best" combination, about having a child that looks like the parents.

Let me submit this question to the forum members:
What is my motivation (as a parent) if I try to manipulate the genetic future of my child?

I have 3 children and each one is drastically different than the other 2. All 3 surprise us constantly. (Good and bad).

If I try to manipulate their looks or their brains before they're born, what does that say about me?

What happens if I try to get a blonde haired blue eyed child and end up with a dark haired, brown eyed child? Especially if I've payed money to try to make that happen? I'm going to be a little frustrated. I'm going to be disappointed. And, that is going to carry over to how I interact with my child, whether or I admit it or not.

How can you love your child unconditionally if you're already trying to add conditions to the way it looks or thinks?

A child should be a lifetime of surprises. A child is not an extension of MY life. I'm only to guide them and let them become what they will.

The whole "me first", "have it your way" mentality is pervading every aspect of our life and its sad when we start applying it to conception.

So no, I'm not jealous, I'm extremely sad. And I didn't mean to demonize this couple, as they're only one example of a much larger population. And, everyone is entitled to their own business but I believe its our responsibility to look critically at accepted social norms and to debate them.

Speaking of babies and genetics, you think it is wrong to test a mother for a gene that could produce a birth defect?

I would be curious about what other social norms you think should be looked at critcally?
