Can you help me please? Mercruiser 4.3l carb.

Hi 1st of all id like to say hello as i am new to the site. I have the above engine fitted to a Maxum 1800sr 2003. I have just picked the boat up from storage and she wont start. i have fuel, i have 12v between the + on the coil and the engine, however i do not have any spark? i have cleaned the distibutor cap and the rotor arm, but to no avail. There are 2 wires going to a sensor in the dizzy. I can hear the fuel pump kicking in. She was working fine before storage.

If all is as you describe then it is time to test the coil in my book. If the coil checks out then it will be time to test the control unit and then distributor sensor/module. I believe the procedures for your setup are in the Adults Only sticky section.

i have tried testing the coil etc today but with no luck.

The Sticky mentioned is the "Adults Only" topic at the beginning of this section. It stays at the top like it is "sticky".

Did you mean you could not test the coil per the described procedure? Or that it failed?

Ahhhh im sorry that should say with carb..

The adults section doesnt really help me.
I tried other various other tests today,everything pointed to the dizzy sensor.
I removed the dizzy only to find that the sensor was corroded. I removed the sensor and cleaned her up, i now have a spark but it is pretty weak, struggles to fire. Can you adjust the timing on these distributors? how much is a new Hall sensor? Sorry for the confusion

I would just replace the cap and rotor its cheap enough and you will not have to worry about those being your issues.

thanks or the replys. i will repace the cap and rotor. I i am getting a spark, is it likely that i have now Fixed the Hall sensor? the cap was phurred up etc, The spark isnt very strong.

what does ayuh mean? i have purchased a mercruiser manual, i may have missed something, but it doesnt mention what the spark should look like/how many times it should spark etc.

Ayuh,... Google is your friend,... Google up Ayuh,+ then you'll know too...

The Manual tells you how to diagnose the Igntion system,...
There should be a bright Blue spark, that'll jump a 1/2" gap...
It fires everytime a cylinder comes to TDC...

yes lol....thanks.. i will try again 2mro when it is light.. am i right in thinking that there will be one spark across the plug every time that particular cylinder hits tdc then?

Yes, you should get a spark when each of your 6 cylinders reaches TDC. Remember, it's a 4 stroke engine so you you need to make sure it is at TDC..... As other's have said, download the manual for your engine and it'll step by step you through it.
