Can you make a Tiller motor a remote motor?

Lets say I have a 89 2 stroke 30 hp Suzuki remote controlled and I want to put on a 2003 Suzuki 40 hp 4 stroke tiller motor, could I swap the controls over to make the 40 hp a remote motor using the controls and wiring from the 2 stroke? With some modification of wiring I suppose. Theres the ignition, charge, warning circuits. I imagine the throttle controls should be no problem. What about the steering linkage? Is there anything that makes a tiller motor tiller only?

can't see much problem from the steering<br />The 2003 DF40 can be mounted with remote controls

Yeah, I'm trying to think what would be a limiting factor as far as using my 89 Suzuki remote shifter to match up to another motor. I think another Suzuki would make it easier but I can't see why with a little modification I couldn't say attach a Merc or Evinrude. But I would prefer either a Suzuki or a Tohatsu... <br /><br />Can anyone point out some glaring incompatabilities that I'm failing to miss?

personally I would lean toward the evinrude....<br /><br />But I am biased. I agree, I think most things can be made to fit, designed to or not. thats why my old 68 evinrude now has merc tilt rams and tilt-tube steering.

I'm not sure about yours, but most tiller steer engines can be rigged for remote controls. With old style cable steering, you might could rig it to be able to use either it or the tiller depending on where you were sitting at the time. <br />You'd probably have to give up throttle/shift features on the tiller, but it'd be good for put-putting around or trolling maybe. <br /><br />Also,<br />You should see some sort of hole on the front for a bracket to accept the steering attachment gear, and probably a plugged hole in the cowling near the bottom front for a throttle and shift cable to pass through. <br /><br />If not, it probably will need a different lower cowl 'pan' I guess you'd call it that engine cover attaches to.<br /><br />Even if you have to go that route, the pan shouldn't cost too much. But they probably didn't change much more than the pan for a tiller or remote steering if the engine was offered either way from the factory.
