My wife signed up for netflix using my e-mail addy, now I'm getting bombed with spam and it started about 8 hours after she signed up. I've had this same acct. for over a year and haven't had this problem before. The attached pic is a screen capture of my yahoo spam folder. Hmmm

Re: Can you trust NetFlix?

Whatever you do, don't open any of the spam. If you attempt to unsubscribe from any of them it will immediately flag your email address as being valid. The original email sender will stop sending to honor your request but they well sell your valuable validated email address to the highest bidder. Yes it is not unlike a virus and the best defense is the lay low.

If you can, create a list of authorized senders and block everyone else. It's kind of a hassle and hard to stick with but it is the most effective way of reducing SPAM.

Looks just like my spam folder. I have three e-mail accounts. One for my personal correspondence and I use one of the others for signing up for things online. the more quesitonable the site (not what your thinking) determines which of the other e-mails to use.

Looks like Yahoo spam detection is working. Just periodically empty the folder. Don't open anything in the spam folder. While Netflix might be the cause, It just also might be a coincidence. Also - change your Yahoo password. Yahoo gets whacked too often and it's best to change passwords frequently.

yahoo span detection is working

I like Netflix itself, but I get it via ROKU box. It still goes through the internet, but you don't have to use a computer, or anything to use it. It all works from the TV/ROKU remote. I love it. Mostly for watching commercial free TV episodes all in a row. Firefly is my favorite :) Keep on flyin' ;)

Never had a problem with Netflix, been using them for 4 years, no spam, no junk mail.

In fact, I only get 1 or 2 emails from them a year.

I too like Netflix. I'm on the Son's of Anarchy right now past 4 seasons, no commercials. I watch two episodes each time I'm doing my workout! The TV series are great! For $7.99 a month I'm about to dump my last premium channel. I'm almost to the point of just taking basic cable, using Netflix and renting the occassional DVD at Redbox for $1.20 each.

But now that I've read their privacy statement I now agree with you. Seems they share everything they have about you with their other vendors. Then they say they have no control of what these vendors do with your info. If you access them through a Facebook account then they take info off your friends accounts.

No wonder their stock has gone from a 52 week high of 142 and now it's at 56!

Agree with Bubba1235, my personal email box has a lot of spam. I don't care since I don't open it. Netflix is a great service for the price.

You get some pretty tame spam. Mine is all ***** pills and fake pharmacies. You wouldn't believe how many girls want to hook up with me as well.

I went further than that and ditched cable/satellite TV entirely. I use a rabbit ears for local channels and Netflix & Hulu for everything else.

Never had a problem with them myself. A little trick I learned from a fellow ham if you really want to know who's selling your info when you sign up for something new, create a new Gmail, or yahoo adress specific for them. Some random numbers or such as the email address. Then wait to see which email accounts fill up with spam. Then you know who sold and profited from your information.

I use Netflix, but regularly get a lot of spam so I can't really say who it is attributed to.

That being said I use Gmail and RARELY does a spam email make it to my actual inbox. I cruise through my spam folder once in awhile just for giggles.

I've had Netflix for about 6 years and I get almost no spam at all, maybe 1 or 2 a month. I have only one email address from the DSL provider. Don't know what that means.

Are you sure it was Netflix? I've never heard of anyone with this issue. Good luck.

Re: Can you trust NetFlix?

We've had Netflix for about a year and I maybe get a couple of spam e-mails daily. The only thing I get from Netflix is the recieved/shipped messages for their DVD's since we have both the streaming and the DVD services.

I'll go one further yet. I've never paid for a cable tv package in my life. We have the locals only for 10 bucks a month so we can get our internet via cable. That's the one below basic cable that only provides local network tv which we originally got because we couldn't get a signal 10 years ago when we got the house. The very idea of Netflix streaming was the best invention since we have every piece of equipment and flat tv in every room you can think of and finally had some real content. I did the math at one point and i've saved enough money to send a kid to college for a year just on this alone.
