Ran the drafting department for a number of years before moving over to engineering.

Still have a set of staedtler pencils, scales, dry cleaning bag, template sets, etc.

Work gave me my mahogany drafting table and stool when they switched over to CAD in the early 80’s. Mrs. Dingbat uses it daily to do her water colors

I have those same tools, we must have come from similar backgrounds.
When my old drafting table became availiable, we had no good place for it, so wife said no, so.... I bought a boat instead. Guess I showed her !

All these trips down memory lane brought to my attention that I still have a drafting machine which was my fathers on a shelf in one of my shop buildings. Checked on E-Bay and there is a ton of them for sale. Don't think it is even worth listing. I don't remember the exact year but my first issue of Autocad was on what must have been 15 5.25 floppies. Just threw them out along with a bunch of versions on 3.5 discs. Had a good friend who taught in the Vo-Tech school so I never had any thing invested in them.

I'm one of those "started in the mail room" guys.
Started with the company as a certified welder at age 19.

Machine Shop Manager - Drafting and Design Manager - Mechanical Engineering Manager - Project Group Manager - Inside Sales Manager - Area Sales Manager - Director, Global Sales, Service and Project Management, along with too many other hats to name :)

Funny you should say that.... As D&D Manager, I was tasked with transitioning the company from mylar to CAD in the early 80's. Spent two years of night school learning the system myself. Started with AutoCad Verison 2.6. The group was using Release 12 when I left the department.

Migrated the Mechanical Eginnering group to PRO Engineer (3D) a few years later.

introduced to the slide rule senior year 1971. The Bowmar calculator showed up in 1972 at the taco bell I worked at.
By 1975 in college, The Texas Instruments SR-50 was the rage.

Still have Dad's from his flight bag. I never got my ticket, but flew with Dad. Tried calculating a little on that thing, but never figured it out.

We mainly used and needed it for the FAA exams and flight planning as new pilots getting a Private and the instrument and commercial ratings. And this was in the 70's. As you advanced into an ATP rating and as an airline pilot, it was hardly used, if at all. Advancements in computers, and the fact that professionally our flight planning department did just that, it wasn't needed.
As a whiz wheel though, it could do a lot of calculations. So it did take some figuring out.
And real good eyesight!😂

I've been totally spoiled by the G1000 when I go up now. If they could build a foot massage into that thing ...

Have a similar unit in my old toolbox, but mine was for milling machine cutter speeds and feeds before carbide became popular.

My Machinist Handbook is in the top, right drawer of my desk to this day.
