Re: Cannabalizm.. what to do

Without the Boyesens youll be capable of somewhere in the 6300-6500 range. With them 6800-6900. Be very aware of timing issues with the cut heads and block. Things get real tight in there. How much piston to head clearance?

Leaving the exhaust blocks out was a very good thing.

I guess its a bit late but what type of boat? I hope its a pad bottom style that responds to propeller rpm. Cause we're WAY over the horsepower curve!

Should have asked that a long time ago.

.1215 from the top of the piston to the tip of the spark plug set @ .040.

The heads are relieved .190 width at the outter edge where the piston would make contact with the head and approx .030-.040 deep(I am going off memory, which is not too good).

I would have to remove the head to check piston to head clearance(?), which I didn't think of. If I take the plugs out I can spin the flywheel with my finger and no LU attached. Put the plugs in seated but loose and I need a fully charged battery to crank it! She THUMPS like a new born throughbred!!

I wish I had my darm website active so I could post pics! !@#$!#$!#$

It's a wellcraft 17' center console, for now.. I am in the process of looking for a boat that I can take advantage of this motor. I need something that can cut through the water. I am fishing in the gulf of mexico and some saltwater bays near galveston. The waves can get nasty in a hurry. This boat can burn through a 3ft wave pretty nicely and been through some 6ft'ers from the swells from the ships coming in.

Engine is on the boat. I will be working on it tonight and should be ready to run her sunday.

Do you happen to know if I can get bushings for the throttle shafts? As in a dealer item.

She lives!! rump rump rull-la rump rump. Not everything went by the numbers, but I have surpassed some hurdles! Finding a flywheel key was non-existant. Had a intermittant problem with the crank triggers and 1 low speed jet that was loose. Not to mention I reached around the block to touch something and the motor "touched" me...yup that wonderfull feeling when a coil jumps to you...dealer only had 3 coils, will need 1 more. Why is it when you pick 1 coil to use of 4, you pick the fudged up one. It's all good though.. she is running now. Has a very nice rumble. alot louder than my 85hp rude. Alot more snap. I will try and get her to the water next weeekend. Weather here is very gusty this weekend.

Can someone tell me what is a good set of carbs to look for? I am not sure if I want to invest the time in trying to fix the ones I have. It would be nice to have something with a little more tunability. An adjustable air screw would be nice.

In all this talk about RPM I lost sight of the torque curve.. have any idea where the peak range will be?

Re: Cannabalizm.. what to do

Sparkroost and Dhadley

I would like to add one question of my own, since this is what this thread is about. I´v got the 1991 crossflow 115. Stock compression. I will have to work on boat this summer and have plenty of time with the outboard. Will milling intake right to left give me more HP at 5800 rpm or do I have to go higher ? Can it stand that. What renge of HP do I get ? Are there any RMP ranges one should avoid, due to vibrations ? What is the necessary "small carb mods" you mentioned in earlier post, Dhadley. Really appreciate you sharing experience with us new guys here :D

Where the power falls off is hard to say since the ports have been modified. With stock port timing a V4 cf will start to lose hp somewhere around 6000. The boat should be up on the pad or aired out well before that so you can get to your target of 7000 rpm.

Milling the intake base will help very slightly. You have to be careful to not mill it so much the reeds start to hit the crankase half.

There are carbs for the crossflows that range from 1" to 1 3/8". We run the smaller ones for acceleration (short circle course) and larger ones for long top end runs.

Good luck!
