Cannot determine exact year of motor

I am new to this forum, I have just aquired a 1978 Skeeter bass boat with what I believe is 65 hp Johnson engine. There is a tag on the mount that has the numbers 75ELR77 but is it possible that it is an exchange? My research of the numbers on the mount revealed that this is a 75 hp 1977 engine, however on the engine cover it has "Johnson 65". Is there any other place that I can find the engine's identification?

Okay I found the engine's ID# on top of the engine. It is a round metal tag about the size of a quarter. Hope thi may help someone.
