Hey guys, we have an 09 larson 350 up for sale at an auction and cannot get a reading on the hours meter. We have given it power (not started the engine) and nothing comes up on the display. The dealer said it required off shore power for a reading? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Assuming you are referring to an hour meter on your dash, they are powered from the ignition switch I terminal (Purple wire) and ground. Check behind the dash and see if they are both hooked up. Or the hour meter died.

the meter and gauges do not get any power, when accessory switches are turned on all the lights/radio etc have power. It is currently set to generator power with shore power off. Do i need to either run the generator or turn it to shore power and plug it in the get anything? I am not sure if we have the approriate cord.. thanks again.

Engine hour meters have nothing to do with the AC power system.
What engines are in this boat? I was assuming 350 Chevy, now wondering if that 350 is the boat and not engine.

Hour meters and gauges should read when you turn the key to run. You do have to turn the battery switches on, and they have to be charged up for them to work.

okay, yes the boat model is 350 and it has dual volvo 5.7L. When i turn either of the keys nothing happens. I believe the batteries are charged as we previously checked that.. i assumed if the other accessory switches were working then the batteries were feeding the boat power and the hour meters should light up. Could there be another switch related to the ignition/gauges?

hour meter may not come on until engine is running. If the hour meter is on then generally its counting and you dont want extra hours you just want the hours the engines are running. Are the rest of the gauges coming on when the key is turned on?

no other gauges register when the key is turned on. One of the voltmeter reads 14 or so all the time (keys on or off) and one shows nothing and when the key is turned no other gauges do anything.. the one voltmeter that shows on doesnt fluctuate at all either..

Check the battery switch and make sure it's turned on.

Gauges and the hour meters should come on when you turn the key on not just when the engine is running.

Do you have lanyard kill switches? Are they turned on?
Many manufactures set it up so the instruments and power from the switch goes through the kill switch.

there are the 2 kill switches with no lanyards attached. the boat has a massive switch board where you can toggle between offshore/generator power etc, would i find the battery switch there possibly? I can attach a photo.. Sorry for the delay but i was off during the weekend. I am back and determined to figure this out :) Here is a photo of the main switch board.

looking at the upper right hand side i can see a switch to test the batteries.. maybe i toggle that and make sure each one has enough juice and if one is dead maybe thats the problem..

That panel has nothing to do with your engines, it's only for the accessories.

You need to have the battery switch/s for the engines turned on, and the ignition key turned to the run (not crank) position for power to get to the hour meters so you can read them.

okay, i was thinking that the panel displays your battery voltage so i would test to make sure all the batteries are charged.. unless the ignition is broken i assume nothing is lighting up because it doesn't have power

I would guess that meter only displays your accessory battery voltage for house power, and has nothing to do with the engine batteries.
