River Rats,

As I mentioned earlier, the square enders I have are rated for six. It do not think anyone is going to hassle you with a 2 or 3 on a bracket, or even a 4 for that matter.

I'll bet the the Honda 2 is a great engine, just like the rest of their product line. I'm sure it's quiet too.

I'm also thinking of your budget. The reason I push the little 3's is because they are virtually indestructable and can be brought back to great running condition for very few $$$. If you find a used one and it has ALL the parts there and compression in both cylinders, you can do the rest to get it purring again. You can probably buy one and rebuild it from recoil starter to prop. for less than $500.00. I prefer the units built in the sixties, they run on 50:1 mixture.

Re: canoe outboard motor

you guys should check out the CANOE SPEED posts up here. I've got a 15' OLD TOWN CANOE with a square stern and a 5hp Nissan 4-stroke. The engine weighs 54lbs(light to me considering my 12v batteries weigh 49lbs each.)
this thing is a missle, and can easily be moved out of the water

Go with a trolling motor River Rats, you'll appreciate the quiet, it'll move plenty fast through the water and, if you upgrade to a larger boat, you'll have it for that. I have a 18' canoe with a Tanaka gas motor but the electric motor gets most of the use. Just hit the switch and you'er off. Also, the small gas motors are very suseptable to fuel contaminants which clog up thier small orfices easily.
