I have heard real good things about the Garmin 240. don't know about the Eagle, but they do have a good reputation. I guess whatever style and features suit you best would be the best one for you..

dokpc,
From their ad it looks like the Garmin comes with a speed and temp transducer where the Eagle only has temp. The Eagle has twice the screen resolution as the Garmin but the Garmin has more wattage. I personally like a clear, sharp picture and as with PC graphics cards, monitors and digital cameras, the more pixels the better. The more detail you can see, the better you can interpret what you're looking at. 'Ole fat boy here would buy the Eagle.
JD

Check out the Eagle Seafinder 480DF if you want high resolution, water temp and water speed included. It can be bought for around $220 on the net.

Re: can't decide

Power Boat Reports did a comparison on inexpensive fish finders last year. The Garmin 240 came in second, above anything made by Eagle (Lowrance) and only lagged behind Furuno (the LS6100), which shouldn't suprise anyone. Despite the nonsense that you hear that Furunos are only suitable to deep water use they actually make two excellent lower end models in the LS4100 and LS6100. I'd suggest you take a look at each of them before you decide.

Thom

BINGO!!! Heavy emphases on “nonsense”.

Garmin’s ‘Blue’ display is a tuff one to beat. It’s really good.
