Hi All,

I have been working on this problem a few days and found a solution....

If you don't have the correct control box for your electronic shift motor (in my case a 1972 Evinrude).

From the ignition harness there are a green and blue wire. One for reverse and one for forward.

Get a three way switch, run a pos to the center terminal from the ignition battery post and then run the green and blue to either end of the switch. There you go.

This works because even though the engine is in forward by default, after the pressure builds it goes into neutral.

When the switch is in the upright - center position it is in neutral. MAKE SURE IT IS IN THIS POSTION BEFORE YOU TURN IT OVER....also remember to check it if your engine dies and you need to restart.

This is obviously not the factory and probably not the safest way to do it, so try at own risk....but it does work.

Re: Can't find an electronic shift controller?

Be careful not to bump the switch while under way. :$ I used a switch with some relays to get the logic I needed for elecshift. I bumped my rigged shift switch instead of the light switch last time out and the LU now jumps in and out of gear at anything above 1/4 throttle.

Moral of the story: Try to fix it right because it could cost ya a lot more than the proper fix would have.

The Rest of the Story:
I got pi$$ed off and looking into buying another motor altogether because a used motor I found is same price as a used lower unit to fix my hydroelecshift.

And now you know, the rest of the story

Good Day..

Re: Can't find an electronic shift controller?

Make sure you know what you are doing before jury-rigging shift switches. On the Hydro-Electric system, green is for neutral and green + blue is for reverse. On the spring-clutch electric shifts, green is forward and blue is reverse. Put a Hydro-Electric switch on a spring clutch system and it will twist off the drive shaft when you try to put it into reverse. In addition to all that, the later Hydro-Electric switches also contain a start-in-neutral-only feature.

xtraham, thanks for the link, but that would not work on an electric shift...no buttons.

Re: Can't find an electronic shift controller?

well, unless some one beats me in the next hour, I have won a shiney new control box for an electronic shift engine on ebay.

Then again I kinda hope some does since I have a working solution.

BTW, Karrick, I put two large lights beside my swith to let me know it is in gear. I also placed it out of the way. Hopefully I won't hit it while in drive. Thanks for the heads up.
