Can't find cross numbers for my filter

So, like any other cheap guy out there, I don't want to pay double price for something just because it says Mercruiser on it. In this case, it's my oil filter.

Oil filter on my boat is p/n 35-866340K01

Engine is a 2004 350 MAG MPI s/n OM648967

I've looked at the filter listings here under the boat motor parts and also in the cross section of the filter bible at the local parts store.

No luck. Anyone have another idea? The Merc dealer is not close to my house, and I'm pretty sure I can get a replacement for way less than the $10 Merc wants.

Thanks,
Chad

Got a NAPA nearby?

They will have a WIX filter for you....

Happy boating!

$10 isn't bad for an oil filter - its OEM and comes with peace of mind

or cheap out and FRAM it, then slam it (with crossed fingers)

otherwise, use AC Delco PF-454 - again, OEM and comes with peace of mind

Just look for cross charts. I am halfway sure that you use the same oil filter as that block uses in a truck. Mine sure does but age-wise it's a dinosaur compared to your boat.
If you aren't sure just spend the extra $5 this time and figure it out later. You are better off with the right part than a suspect one.

Re: Can't find cross numbers for my filter

Well, the OP said he searched and couldn't find anything. I know that the search function on these forums can be a PITA if you not familiar on how to use them. It will not look for 3 letter words for example. So if you type in "oil" it wont look for it unless you add a * before and after the word.

Its a good question so I figured I would post the answer for other people to find in the future...

Yep. Apparently I don't know the ins and outs of the searching processes here. I normally do pretty well on other boards.
I was able to find other Merc numbers and filters that cross numbers with them, but not the specific filter number that's on my boat.

Thanks for the help! And I'll try to not be stupid next time!;)
