just read an old post about using a single hole paper punch to get perfect holes in self made gaskets. what if the holes you need are bigger? a really cheap way to make holes, right up to 1/2" is to get some shell casings from your local gun club (MAKE 100% sure they have been fired....even the primers pack a punch). im not completely sure on these numbers.....but they are close. 22 cal = 3/16, 25 cal = 1/4 , this goes up to 50 cal = 1/2 with many common calibers between, matching many common bolt sizes. lots of places will give you these USED shell casings, and they do make great gasket hole punches.
i stress again tho......make SURE you confirm that the PRIMER has been used in the casing before you start tapping on it with a hammer.

OR you can buy a punch kit with all sizes, without the risk of suicide, for under $20 :)

You could also just pin up the gasket material down range and shoot the holes in the appropriate places if you're a good shot too!

Oh that would be hilarious to use a bullet shell, with the primer still in it. :D:D It might make punching the hole a little easier. :D:D:D

Reading this thread made me think of a scene I saw in an Indiana Jones movie, where he was breaking a hole through the floor in this old library over in Italy. He tried to time his hits with the librarian hitting papers with a rubber stamp. He did good, but it drove the librarian nuts trying to figure out why his rubber stamp was so loud. :D:D:D

roflmoa! now that would be fun! but seriously tho, used shell casings are cheap/free.....and it dont take a rocket scientist to tell that they have been fired and are inert. (still might try that down range thing!! even if im a bad shot.....i could make universal gaskets....that would fit everything from a small block chevy to an old merc!)

This reminds me of a guy who used a plasma cutter to make a venthole in in a non vented fuel tank...........had he talked to me first I would have reminded him to make sure the fuel tank was dry and empty!!!!!
