I've got what appears, based on the serial number plate on the transom clamp, a '79 V6 150. When the shop dyno'd it, it only put out about 135 hp. The mechanic mentioned it could be electrical or carbs causing this as the compression was good. It had a few leaks so I ordered some gaskets online. The exhaust divider was leaking so I pulled it off. The new gaskets I ordered, which I checked with the mechanic, don't fit. They are the ones listed for pretty much all V6's of that vintage according to him but they are not going to fit!!

He said to find the sn on the powerhead but I can't find anything other than 23632 as a "raised" number on the top of the block near where the pressure gauge hose connects. there is no soft plug with a stamped number or any other identifiying numbers. He said it should be 7 numbers or 2 letters and 5 numbers? Anywhere else to look?

I was told by a prior owner that it is a rebuilt powerhead so should that effect anything.......? I see "Mercury" numerous places on the block.....

Thanks,

Lance

This may be an instance where a picture could help to identify it.
