cant find the year by using serial number

my buddy bought a remote steer 35 horse merc. i pulled up a serial number list but cannot seem to find anything on it. the number is oc144132 any help on the year would be great.

1989... It's an ELO. Not the band, that means; Electric, Long shaft, Oil injected.

how in the world did you find that out ? or do you have a merc manual ? i have looked at charts all afternoon to try figure it out.
