Can't forget the garboard plug like this

Ok so I found this on another forum and figured I'd share it because I think this guy came up with a slick idea! He took what looks like a brass npt cap and attached it to his winch so the garboard plug screws in the cap. With the plug screwed in it blocks the winch handle so you would have to take the plug out to launch the boat. Makes it kinda hard to forget the plug! I can't take credit as this was someone else's idea but it beats what I did drilling a hole in the square part of the plug so I could tie it to the winch. I figured I'd share it because I thought it was a damn good idea and hopefully it's helps someone. Maybe he's even an Iboats member and can come take credit because somebody was thinking on this one!

Also if your wondering he put nail polish on the plug that's what the green is. That had me scratching my head for a second because I never saw a green plug

I used a sharpie and wrote "check plug" on each of my transom tie-down straps.

Similar tricks like drilling a hole in the square and running a ring or wire trough it then zip tying it to the steering wheel or keys is also an idea. I think the main point is that with teh garboard plug in place the trailer winch won't spin preventing you from launching the boat at all.

That's what I did. I drilled a hole in the plug and tie it to my winch handle but I figured this might be useful to guys trailering. It would be pretty hard to forget this way!

My plug. Was having a hard time finding any thing in brass or SS that would go thru the transom. Ended up with this push on (don't sink), push off(sink) drain tube. Works great!
