I have a 1984 15' Doral boat with an OMC Stern Drive, with a GM 2.5 153 4-cylinder motor.
Had the boat for almost a year and am yet to get a full hour of use.
I bought the boat a project. I rebuilt to motor as one of the Rods were trashed.
I have replaced all the electrical, rebuilt the carb, new fuel pump and filters, all new parts related to the cooling system. Pretty much every single part replaced.
I have a serious time getting the boat to Plane. In fact I've only got to go past 3000 RPM, maybe 3-4 times.
It takes for ever get up to 3000 RPM. Most of the time that's all it will do.
I couple times I have got it to go and hit 4200 RPM and had it go nicely. Then either on the way back or even after bringing the throttle back, it would just bog down and not pick up. Going maybe 6-8 mph?
I am thinking this must be a fuel related problem. Tested the pump, it is brand new and does pump with I tested it manually.
Taken apart the carb and adjusted the float a couple times. NO difference.
The only other thing I can think of is maybe there is a crack in the fuel line? Maybe taking on air or water?
What do you guys think? I am getting pretty frustrated, and am probably not even thinking on the right track.
Is there anything that wasn't possibly calibrated right with the installation?
I've made it this far without going to a marine mechanic. I've always done well with building my cars. But this boat is almost making me consider going to a marine mechanic. But I would like to finally get this thing going good.
Please help.
