:'(I bought a 67 20 horse merc. from a dealer, he said he put 105 gear grease in it. today I tried to push that out & put 90 wt. lube in, I took both screws out but I cant get the gear lube in, it took maybe two pumps on the the pump,& wont accept anymore, anyone have any ideas why?

Wrong holes perhaps. If you took out the correct screws the lub should run out the bottom. You fill from the bottom until it comes out the top. Insert the top screw, remove the pump and then insert the bottom screw.

I am pretty sure I took the right screws out, 2 big slotted screws, the only other screw is small, I think it holds the shift dog fork, at least thats the ways my evinrude is.

The top screw is a smaller one located on the side of the unit just below the cavitation plate the large top plug is a flush plug

If the guy filled it 105 wt grease and the weather is cold there in England at current time you may not get it to run. I would think it would thick, maybe try having both screws out a put about 4-5 lbs pressure on the upper hole. Might have to warm it up a little.
I guess there is a real difference between 60-90 lube and 105 grease.
Maybe he put in the heavy weight stuff to cover up gear noise. I know years ago, some "bad" used car lots would put 90wt oil in to cover up a light engine knock.

Saw dust in a noisy differential quieted it down too -- for awhile.

Re: cant get gear lube in

you can either live with the 105 LU grease in there, or pull the drain/fill plugs and pump in some of the correct weight. The 105 won't hurt things, but it's harder to tell when water intrusion occurs cause 105 is typically white. He may or may not have put 105 in there to mask a leaking seal or noise in the LU...depends on what kinda person he is. You can pressure test the LU if you're concerned about it to find out if the seals are good. As said earlier, cool/cold temps may be why the 105 isn't being displaced by the correct lube if you are doing the drain/fill procedure correctly.
