hello,i have a 1976 135hp motor that i have switched from a bass boat to a pontoon,it run fine on the bass boat,it had originial control box i might add, saying that, the pontoon has a quick silver control <top mount button push> where as the original is side mount no push button just warmup lever,i have everything switched over i used the cables from the motor previously on pontoon {50hp force} seem to work fine after changing the cable ends, i have electrical hooked up the motor starts and turns off fine but the problem is now that i have to pull back on throttle in reverse to rev motor and with the controls i cannot get it to go into forward or reverse is there any hope?

Sounds like you have the wrong controls. You have not said what motor.

Re: Cant get into gear!!!!

Just replaced the plugs on my '73 135hp. QL77JC4 Champions are the OMC specified plug, gap them to .030. I think the UL plugs are surface gap plugs. The QL77JC4 plugs are not surface gap plugs, but regular plugs you have to gap on installing. I've had two mechanics tell me they prefer not to use the surface gap plugs (and one tell me the surface gap plugs are just fine - your choice), and never Autolite plugs in any outboard (all 3 say this). Champion or NGK.
