Hey gus

I removed the six nuts and two ram tubes. I got it to pop loose but it's not coming out. I put two screw drivers in the slot and no luck. It has been in full forward drive since I started? Any suggestions? It will come about 2mm off but thats it.

Thanks
Joe

If you have all nuts and trim rams off your problem most likley is your driveshaft is stuck in your engine coupler or in your gimble bearing. with caution spray some lube down on your engine coupler/splines let it sit and pry again a little harder.

Did you disconnect the speedo tube? Could be hanging up on that little plastic piece.

There are no slots to put screwdrivers in.
reinstall the rams, using wood blocks between the transom and top of drive and activate trailer mode CAREFULLY

Just forw'd of the shift shaft on the top of the gear housing (lower box)... Usually I forget to remove that one, it just pulls the hose off the fitting. Maybe you're being too gentle. These things some times need a bit of force to show them who's boss.

Just for kicks and giggles, see if the engine mounts look OK. If they are loose or sunken into the stringer, that could be a concern.

If its the counter-rotating drive of a twin setup, put it in REVERSE! (Dont ask how I know)

put block of wood between top of drive and transom or bell housing so you have a little prying leverage.

Hey guys,

I took the boat to Canal Marine in Buford, GA. They can't get it off too. They seem to think the outdrive is suck in the bearing. I sprayed inside the boat down by the shaft and where it goes into the crank thingy. LOL I will give it some whacks tomorrow.

Just finished mine. It was stuck too! Ended up hooking the hydraulic trim cylinders and pushing it off. Spline had frozen in shaft.

Re: Can't get the Alpha Gen 2 off the gimbal housing

Dude you all are awesome! I used the ram tube idea and it worked. I used a section of 6"x6" board and laid it horizontal across the top of the drive. I placed one edge where the drive should come off on the top and one end at the top of the gimble housing by those two large stainless bolts. I did so while the drive was horizontal and just kept bumping it. It was awesome! I had to readjust the timber a few times but I'm so excited! Freak yeah! Man, I love forum!

Thanks again!

Now that you got it off, any extra parts come out with it? What's it look like it there that might explain why it might have been stuck in the first place?

Be sure to clean inside and out side the spline. Mine on the drive shaft was hardened grease and was holding it. I was worried the bearing had forzen but it was in great shape. Glad you got it off.
