Can't get tinytach to work properly.

I have the shielded version from Tinytach, and have tried routing it different ways, with no luck. It has gotten a little better, but not good enough for some test runs. I even tried putting heat shrink wrap on the wire to help insulate it more. The tach reads idle great, up until around 1500RPMs, then as the RPMs increase, the reading doesnt go up, it just fluctuates from 1100-1800 RPMs. I know for a fact by pitch of my prop and GPS speed that the RPMs are more like 4500-5500 RPMs. Any great ideas?

By the way, motor is a Mercury 650 (4 cylinder). And I have set the tach properly to 90 degrees (4 sparks per revolution)

But if you have the tach sense wire connected to one plug wire, you have 1 spark per revolution, not four. Which Tiny Tach model do you have? And how do you have it connected.

Re: Can't get tinytach to work properly.

Hmm, Ill have to get back to you on that Silver. I bought it 2 months ago and it is just the lower end model. It says to set the degree of revolutions of the crank per spark. And for 4 cylinders to set it to 90 degrees. Even though it is one spark per revolution, it still wants to "know" how many sparks it is dealing with per crank revolution. The wire is wrapped around the bottom plug of the inline 4, and ground runs straight to the frame where the starter and main harness grounds to. @ Scott, the wire is 14' long.

Got off the phone with the manufacturer, he said to wrap the spark plug wire with the red wire one extra time. He told me that the signal is too weak. He also assured me that the length of the wire was fine. Only thing is I have the red wire wrapping the plug wire 5-6 times and there is no more left to wrap with......

did you order a longer wire, or supply your own? the standard wire length is 6'. I have had problems at work with tiny tachs with interference going much more than a few feet.
