1967-68 110hp. It has the small transfer covers, 2 piece distributor, small exhaust cover, twin fuel pumps and the wiring and fuel lines are a mess!!!!

Hey thx for the comment...luv it when people tell me how crappy my stuff is! Maybe I'm not as fancyfied as a person of your stature but I thought that motor looked pretty clean and it runs great! Appreciate help but don't need the criticism!

I agree, any free advice from Faztbullet is worth WAY more than free advice from other folks.:)
(especially when it comes to older Mercs)

If anything he is trying to point out problems that may make the motor unsafe, such as fuel lines that are in bad shape that could be replaced cheaply.

Welcome to iboats cletus!

Hey Cletus, I didnt mean to upset ya, there are certain things that I see that are/can give you problems with running and safety. I added notes to your pic's on what I think could/can cause you problems with performance/maintenance/safety. Do as you wish as this is a free forum.....

Re: can't id this merc!!

we are here and see alot of others peoples problems, and we take time out of our lives to make yours a little easier. I do not believe anyone here gives bad suggestions and even more than this give great advise. Even the veterens here are sometimes wrong. If it was our motor we wouldn,t need much advise, but a second pair of eyes is always the best wat to see a problem. No one calls someone elses engine a piece of crap. Even if it almost totally unrepairable. Like he said he stated what he saw. He gave his beast description of the engine and possible suggestions in order to make it a halfway decent trustworthy sea worthy and SAFE Peice of unmaintained Machinery.Good luck with what you where asking about I,m outta here!

Sorry about that Faztbullet. Must be my time of the month or something. Didn't mean to bite yer head off as I REALLY am grateful for info. Looked over your notes and glad you pointed these things out as I never would have known. spent most of the day tinkering around with this motor and finally got it to run good. All 6 cyl are 120 psi +/- 3, the plugs all looked good, now I guess I had better spring for a new impeller!

Remove the lower end plug. that will tell you a lot. when you crack it open , if water seeps out. then you have water intrusion.
