Finally got motor in and running, but drive knocks some when turned full right or left. (In neutral, have not put in gear, also drive as far down as will go without touching ground). Ser# on Mercruiser drive is 6939537. I read the post with all the manuals, but not sure which one is mine. The unit also has a 1.65R on it if that helps. Thanks.

The SN fits for an 85, MR outdrive (1.65 gear ratio) for a model 200 (305 chevy V8)

Re: Can't identify drive?

I downloaded manual #9. This appears to be my engine, but the drive type I have is only hit on in the maintenance section. In section 8 it offers a Velvet drive, Driveshaft models/propeller shaft, and a Hurth transmission. None of these look like mine. Am I looking at it wrong? Mine looks more like the Alpha one shown in the maintenance secton. How do I know for sure about the drive?

Look at the serial number of the engine. Should be a tag just above the starter on the back of the block. If it's 6899058 or above, yes, #9 manual is the one you want.
