Can't remove old steering cable

Hey there. I have an issue with removing my old steering cable from the splashwell. The steering arm runs through a threaded tube that pokes out of a boot on the side of the splashwell, then attaches to a plate on the front of the motor via a swivel type nut which is attached to the steering arm. I tried like hell to unscrew the swivel thing from the steering arm but got to the point where my arms felt like they'd break off before it did. The problem is that I can't slide the arm through the transom with this thing attached. Maybe I'm doing it wrong (likely story). I'd appreciate any advice. Sorry for the bad photo. I haven't cleaned the boat since last year and its dark out ;)

I'm gonna guess it is corroded in place... I would use heat to try and free it OR if you can find another for the new cable just cut it off OR slide the cable out the other way

Thanks for the reply. Got the grinder out and cut it right off. My new steering cable didn't have the same rod end as the old one, but it works well enough without it. My boat can steer again! This should make boating much more enjoyable!
