I am trying to figure out what is causing my boat to stall when putting it in gear, and I noticed my shift interrupt switch has two wires coming out of it. One is practically melted through and may be shorting. i made some adjustments to my lower shift cable, as it wasn't fully catching in reverse. Now I want to replace the switch.

Does anyone know the parts # or place to get this? I think its 19752A 3 but not sure if that is for my model. (1985 Alpha 1 170hp). I noticed that the switch was not really moving when putting it in gear too? That may be due to no load on the prop?

Anyway, let me know. I found the 19752A 3 on ebay for $40. I will check a local shop or two tomorrow. I could not find it on the site here.

Brownie points, anyone know the part # for the starter solenoid as well? Its rusty and old. I want to replace.

Ayuh,... Yer hi-lighted statement says the shift switch Is Workin'.... That's why it stalls....

You need a New Lower Shift Cable,.... Yer's is worn out, 'n draggin' to boot...

The Worn out, is why it don't catch reverse, 'n the stallin' is the draggin'....

Uh I think its the starter one. starterSel.jpg

And the switch does work, as i was able to verify by using a continuity meter. I still wish to replace if I can due to it melting through. Is the lower shift cable easy to replace? It seems like it goes down to the transom and I could imagine it would be a pain to get a new one routed. Any special tools?

That would be your slave solenoid. Strange location, they are normally on the other side near the starter.
The OEM part number is 65057A1, so be sure your new solenoid if not OEM crosses to that number.

Thank you for that part #! So what is the difference between the slave and starter?

The slave solenoid takes less amperage from the ignition switch than the starter solenoid.

Where are you finding part numbers by chance? I have the OEM manuals but I do not see part numbers. I would like to get the part # for the control cable as well. I see there are diff lengths. I guess ill have to dig in and measure the one I have.

I found a website www.mercruiserparts.com and figures.. the two things I want (switch and terminal block) are no longer sold. ARGH
