cant start with key

its me again....going out to the lake this weekend to work on the boat...one more issue it that if i try to start it with the key it just clicks...it used to do that but u could jiggle the shifter around and it would work finally....now no matter what it just clicks and clicks and only way i can start it is to turn the key to on and then jump the starter...i know neutral safety switch is going to be questioned but i dont know where it is located and if that is even the problem....

If it's clicking back at the engine, you are way past the neutral safety switch.
