Ok so here is the thing, this rink is owned by a city, they don't really care about money so the pay is pretty good, but the management has no clue, they are sports people but not hockey people. so after a couple of beer leagues they decide on their own its time to up the stakes a bit and add a competitve league and put it on the website well guess what its a hit and the league fills up in less then an hour. two weeks later I get called in to discuss the leagues which is when they tell me that now WE will have a competitive league, I'm like ok well I am going to need help because we don't have anyone but me qualified to do a competitive league they say ok get on it we start next week....OMG are you kidding? the top guys I know are booked a month in advance! Anyway I get it done and we move on so fast forward a month later...
We have a good bunch of old guys playing a bunch of college kids and the old guys are just taking it to the kids I mean it was just sad, well one of the kids takes a two hander to the back of one of the old guys who is also on one of the local SWAT teams so can you say BAD IDEA, SWAT guy turns around and has a few choice words for the kid whom I have already rung up for a Game Misconduct, Kid decides this is a good time to completely earn his Game Misconduct and attempts to throw a punch, SWAT guy just quick jabs kid in the face and DROPS him well then another kid comes to the rescue and again one punch and down then ANOTHER kid comes in and gets the same result mind you this whole time SWAT guy still has his stick in his strong hand and gloves on both hands and this is when the rest of the team decides to get involved and we have a bench clearer OOOH BOY
I forfeit the game in favor of the old guys and since this is a public facility there is a strict no fighting rule the whole kid team is ineligible for next weeks game so its a forfeit too. Next week comes along and guess who shows up, the whole team, I say no way and they say we talked to Bob and he said yes way I go and talk to Bob and he says yes way, I inform Bob that this is a violation of the cities no fighting rule and he says that it was not intended for this specific situation..well I lose I go out and referee the game and proceed to get called a F'n (gay person) so I throw another college kid 30 seconds into the game, I throw two more in the first period for language and abuse of officials, the kids get there hats handed to them again.
Next week guess what, the three players I Gave Game Misconducts to are back again I say no way they say yes way we talked to Bob, so I go talk to Bob and I lose again. Me and my partner finished the night went into Bobs office and since we were at the end of our scheduled games that Bob would have to find replacements...
That was two years ago I believe
