I have an after market Canvas and the poles are always falling down bc the dont snap in. Any recommendations on after market poles or other technics to support the canvas to present pooling. I was thinking why couldn't I run a line from stern to bow, bow to stern down the middle and stern back to opposite bow? Something has to be better than these damn poles!

Poles don't snap in? You mean the ends don't have fittings to anchor to the gunnel?

Sorry should have been clearer, by canvas I mean the cover. When I bought the after market one I bought 2 new poles buy they were junk, so I went back the the original ones. The original ones had snaps to snap into the old mooring cover. Its gets frustrating because if water collects it eventually soaks through the cover and soaks the inside.

If your boat has a fairly large span to support build a very basic wood skeleton structure. Mine has evolved to about four ribs and a sheet of plywood they usually last about 7 to 8 years we get an accumulation of three feet of iced over snow or more no poles will hold up to that.

Couldn't you sew a reinforcement patch where the pole meets the canvas, then install a snap to receive the pole? You can buy a snap kit with a simple die and anvil which is fine for installing just a couple of snaps. Reinforcing the fabric would take longer than installing the snaps.

Thanks everyone. I like the idea of the rib system for winter storage for winter storage, and that taylors made system is here I got my idea for my. I'll have to look for a patch to maybe sew in a new snap as an option too.

A boat tied up at a dock needs to be covered with an easy on/off cover. Something that will allow the area under the canvas to breath a little pretty helpful as well. That in mind, you see these used frequently. Often, the covers have an area sewn on to help support them, but these can be glued in place as well. After punching a hole where they go through the canvass, there's a big nut that tightens down on the fabric to help prevent pull through. The support pole is inserted into this cup, and it stays there pretty good if it's the right size (3/4"?)
