Has anyone had experience trailering a boat with the top left on?I have a 19 ft cuddy that has the top that opens by the middle of the windshield and slopes down to the transom.Could I get away with pulling it this way or would it be best to take the top off every time I pull it?Thanks..Star

Hey Star, I would'nt suggest doing this any more than you have to.Its hard on everything.eventualy you'll wear out your snaps and rip the fabric.I would suggest if you don't already have one to buy a tounea cover, and save the other top for when you need it.Even for storage,if your top has plastic windows. The plastic will discolour and crack with exposure to the sun. A tuneua cover is alot less expensive than a camper top.

Jim

Does the top snap to the top of the windshield, or is it a bimini?
If it snaps to the windshield I would'nt worry about it. I run my boat up to 58mph with the top up and havent had any problems.

Cheers... Canuck 16.

Re: canvas top on cuddy

With the first top that was on my boat I towed with it up all the time. That one lasted about 3 years and cost me almost $500 to have replaced. I had stopped for gas and looked up to see that what had been a perfectly good top a little earlier in the morning was nothing but a mop of flapping rags by the time I had any idea there was anything wrong.

So I had a new top made. I religiously took down the new one every trip for the first couple of years, but I got lazy last summer. Two weeks ago while towing up the road, just for a short trip mind you, I looked in the mirror and saw the top flopping all around again. With dollar signs in my eyes I pulled over immediately and tied it down. I was lucky, only have to replace the straps and have one seam resewn.

If you've got plenty of money tow with it up.

Thom
