Got some more work done these past few days. The rest of the deck is finally off the stringers. What a hell of a time getting that free from the glue. Then decided to spend about 7 hrs with the chisel gun chipping off all that glue. When I finished with that I decided to just replace the tops off those box foam core stringers. The original construction was done with what looks like CDX, which I know would probally be OK because there was no rot what so ever. But, the sheets they used looked a little rough and were full of nots. These along with the rest of the floor will be replaced with marine-tech, that should be picked up tomorrow. The demo is almost finished, just need to remove that bulk head in the rear and do some grinding. Then finally the reassembly will begin.

What is marine-tec ?

Marine-Tech is a plywood designed for marine use. It has been pressure treated and kiln dried so that is ready for fiberglass. It's also fairly inexpensive compared to marine plywood. My local lumber yard sells it at $38.00 for 3/8" which is what the tops of my stringers require, and $44.00 a sheet for 1/2" which is what I will be using for the floor. Read alot of good reviews on this product. Found out about it after reading lilrichards rebuild over on classicaquasport.

Got some more work done to the boat today. After finding water in the tank area, I took some core samples of the stringers and found wet wood.
Tank area

Transom skin removed

Delamination

And everything cleaned up with the delaminated layer removed

Here's another one, no glue or fiberglass, this time there's staples holding the two pieces of plywood for the transom together

So since I will be replacing the stringers, I'm going to go ahead and skip the nida-bond transom, and use the marine-tech plywood in its place. Next week I'll grind and sand all the lips and edges that are left. I will also be adding 2 layers of 1808 to the transom skin along with a layer of CSM to thicken and strengthen it back up. Hopefully in the next week or two I willl have the transom finished and have moved on to the stringers.
