Cap On..Then... =S

I have a Mercury 2 Stroke 25 HP outboard engine and it works perfectly fine when I have the cap off the engine..But when I put the cap on the engine it starts okay and everything but it wont go..it doesnt kick into high speed and it has a jerking feeling to it.. it just doesnt make no sence why work with the cap off.. and why not work with it on..?

Maybe an exhaust leak choking it? Are the air vents in the hood clear of debris?

could be A wire shorting!

by cap, Im assuming you mean the motor cover? sounds like its air starved to me. check your air vents.

Exhaust leak is the most probable cause if it runs OK w/ the cover off.
