i'm thinking about building or rebuilding a pontoon. #1. can a twin toon be converted to a tri toon. whats involved just finding a 3rd toon & isntall. 2nd on an existing twin toon or a converted to tritoon be made to accept twin engine application.im not just hungry for speed just want to make sure if im out & 1 engine dies i can still get back to launch area.im kinda handy & dont mind work. looking for toons in west ky. you would think that in my area i would be able to find toons or older boat that needs work fairly inexpensive.kinda picky though i would like to get trailer at the same time

Welcome to iboats, as a tip when you post in the future please put what you need to know in the title like"Can I build my own pontoon", you will get more answers.

Building a pontoon I would say no, that is alot of stuff to round up and it would probably be more expensive than buying a used one.

Rebuilding is pretty easy if you have the wallet, all the parts are there and all the engineering is already done.

You can add a center tube but you need to be sure the baracket spacings are the same as the outboard tubes.

I have seen boats with twin power but I would recomend against it, alot of expense and complication and a ton of weight on the back of the boat.

They do that by having center tubes on the outside and a normal tube in the center

Unless you plan to dissapear into the Gulf of Mexico for a couple days a back up engine is not really needed.

Boats with those are generally used in the ocean where if your motor craps out you are in big trouble, on your local lake there is usually someone willing to help you out if you lose power.

Patience is the key when looking for a boat, if you look in enough places long enough you will find what you want.
