I have a 1985 bayliner capri and no storage. On the bow you have the 3 little storage areas 1 in the front and 1 on each side. My question is the 1's on the side have the area behind them in front of the windshield that has plywood on top but seems hollow, is this area hollow and can i cut the ply and make it storage? Or should i just put the saw down and step away from the boat. Thanking you in advance for any information.

Re: capri storage

I have an '89 Capri and I know of the storage areas you're talking about.

I sure would be afraid to cut into the boat for fear of what may or may not be where you're cutting.

Is the storage area not big enough? I usually store PFDs on one side and my anchor and rode on the other side. The front one is so small that towels for boat wipe downs are stored there.

Um, my advise would be to step away from the boat and put the saw down. :)

learning...

if i'm not mistaken, the 'hollow' area you're refering to goes under the dash, right? and you want to extend the front triangular openings back underneath.

if this is the case, there are a couple problems. first, the area isn't really hollow, because its filled with foam, and it is probably the only areas in the bow section that have any foam in them. second, the panel that comes down from the dash and ties into that box supports most of the weight of the dash and windshield. cutting out the ply underneath it would probably reduce its stregth, and could lead to problems later, especially on the starboard where the steering system, guages, and such add a lot of weight to support.

just my 2 cents, hope that helps
