Captains chairs, mounting

Is it possible to install captains chairs on a boat that did not have them previously....would it mess up the floor..?

should not be a problem. just need a way to get under the deck to install backing plates and to secure the bolts. you don't want to just screw the mounts down into the deck.

Take the base of the chair and use it as a template on a piece of 3/4" marine plywood. Cut the plywood. Cut out any carpet in the same pattern and clean the floor underneath well. Drill the bolt holes through the disk and countersink to accomodate the largest fender washers you can find and the bolt head. Preferrably use 316 stainless hardware. Use waterproof glue (I forget what it's called, it's two part, something like water proof resinol glue - tan powder and dark brown liquid) if the floor is wood or 5200 if it's fiberglass to bond the plywood disk to the floor. Use screws to clamp the disk to the floor. Before you mount the pedestal, seal the plywood disk.
