Captains license requirements clarification

Hello all,

Was thinking about getting my captains license and was put off by the experience factor. I have hundreds and hundreds of 4 hour days at sea, but cant think of a time when I spent 8 hours. Does this mean I have ZERO experience when it comes to my license? Or can I combine 2, 4 hour days to log 1 day? Also have a little trouble seeing green. Stopped me from getting a private pilots license. Is that a death sentence for the captains license? Anyone have insight on these I'd appreciate the feedback. Thanks.

I'd check with the C.G. for 'hours logged' clarification, that's not an opinion type of question. Regarding being able to see the color green, ... yea I'm thinking that's a problem. When you are out after dark the only colors you see are white, red, and green, and of you can't tell one from the other you have no way of knowing what other boats are doing and therefore what you are required to do (maneuvering).
