When I bought the boat, both seat bottoms looked like the below picture. What are your suggestions in re-enforcing the area to re-attached the swivel?

I would probably scuff the entire bottom area and epoxy a piece of 1/2in ply to the bottom and also screw it down in all 4 outer corners and 4 spots between them on the outer edges.
Maybe some better ideas will come along though.

Hard to know what kind of adhesive, if any, might actually stick to that stuff. I'd probably be inclined to get a really thick aluminum plate (or two) and toggle bolt them to the underside of the seat, and then attach the swivel to the plate. I might slather some epoxy on it as well, but I would really depend on some sort of mechanical fastener to take the load.

Personally I don't think you'll find much of any type glue, epoxy, or any type achieves to glue anything on there. However, I would see if I could detach the cushioned section from the lower plastic type plate and then use some 1/4: aluminum plate (or stainless steel would be even better) to sandwich both sides together. Then reattach the swivel again and go boating...

It looks to me that this is an add-on to the bucket itself as witnessed by the 4 bolts in the corners. If those nuts can be removed without losing the bolts into the bucket above, perhaps an aluminum plate could be scabbed to the bottom of the damaged piece or replace it altogether, and then refastened to the post/swivel. ?? - Grandad

That's the original base! I've re-upholstered similar ones and they look practically the same. Short of taking the seat apart not sure theres a good way to fasten a new base to the existing one.:blue:

Yup, I'd have to pull the upholstery off to remove the plastic seat pan. I was thinking a thick plate toggle bolted would work nicely

You might be able to toggle bolt a plywood base to the plastic but...Not sure about the longevity!!!

That's not uncommon, that type of seat needs a larger base plate than the normal swivel base or they tend to crack like that.

For some reason I'm now blank as to the name of the nut that can be inserted into the seat, it's sort of like a toggle bolt, oh well. You can use some West System G-Flex epoxy to help hold the current cracks together. You can cut a small hole in the center and put a large fender washer on the inside to help hold the insert nut(?) or toggle bolt. Bolt the larger thick plywood base plate to the seat and attach the swivel base to it.

A combination of these will breath new life into an old seat base.

I've built new bases for the swivels (see below). Plan is the extend the two bolts and tie the new bases to those then use a combo of molly bolts and spanx screw to tie the rest of it to the base.

did pull the vinyl back looking for addition bolts towards the back of the seat (like the front has) but there are none.

Will post a final picture when done...

Here is the final product. Still need to finish stapling the last of the upholstery and add some washer to the molly bolts. Anyways, I bolted the new base to the bolts at the front of the seat seen in the first picture. Then added 4 molly boats and 11 spanx screw as pictured. The seat now rests on a solid base with the load spread out over a much larger area.
