will this mess anything up even though there not marine speakers? they are really good speaker out of my old car that I dont use and dont want to go to waste. Just want to make sure if I tuck them uder the dash so they dont get wet if they will be ok. And should I get a marine deck or car one. I Can get a car one for 20 bucks off my buddy that is a good deck with good watts. or should I spend more cash and get a marine deck and speaker. thanks dave

Well, you can use auto speakers and a head unit, but it will not last very long. Now, go to Wal-Mart, and buy a cover, they sell covers for boats for the marine radios. They're like 20 bucks. The speakers will be fine, until they get wet a few times. Salt water will kill them quicker.

The car speakers I have in my boat have held up for held up to 14 months of use. I have them tucked way up under the dash and they haven't gotten wet yet.
I noticed yesterday that fish have a musical taste
Metallica, guns and roses, billy joel, nothing
prtetenders, pearl jam, jewel, a few bites
led zeppelin, neal young, and frank zappa they went crazy and I couldn't keep up with them

Auto speakers ae not sheilded and will affect compasses. However unless you go out on big water and rely on a compass, that's not an issue. Eventually, humidity, even on fresh water, will get to the speakers and head unit. However, again, at that cheap a price, it's like a throw-away anyway.

I paid 20 bucks for a kenwood cd player for my boat, and put in some 20 dollar speakers bought for a truck. I also got the waterproof splashguard for my head unit though. The speakers did get wet one time in a big storm and cut out. I have since acquired some good marine speakers that im installing soon though.

Also, some of the marine head units come with floating remotes, thats a cool idea and ill be upgrading in the future sometime to one. but for now, put it in, its better than no tunes! gotta have tunes! haha.

In my doral, I have a kenwood headunit and 4 pioneer 3-way speakers, have held up for 6 years without any issue. I am obviously not getting them wet, they are in safe spots from water but they are exposed to moisture. Haven't had any issue.

I noticed some speakers are suitable for marine use though they do not explicitly say it. If you get them free or cheap, why not. As for a head unit, if it is already in your glove box or with a cover...go for it.

use common sence to keep'em dry and they will be fine. Mine are mounted in carpeted boxes so I can set them up on top and point them at families and dorks in my favorite picnic spots. Slayer-south of heaven- Motorhead or Dead Kennedys will run them off quick enough.

not all car speakers are created the same. paper cones rot real quick, steel baskets rust pretty quick too.

polypropolene cones and you should be fine with a little care.
same with the deck, keep it dry and you should be ok. the only time i've had to replace a deck, the cd ejected halfway out and it rained...it never turned on again but i got my cd back. ipod takes care of that happening again.

even my 8 yr old car audio amps still pound and this is a ski boat, not a cabin cruiser or anything like that.

I have a Kenwood car head unit hooked to 2 Infinity outdoor speakers.
It can rain into those speakers and never hurt them.
The Kenwood is in the enclosed fixed mount stereo box with the tinted cover.
No problems so far.The remote works without opening the cover on the stereo..Worked out good and really cranks some tunes.
