My Chiltons only goes back to 67. If you can find an earlier edition, it should be listed there if it was produced that way. Have you called a parts place? Call one and see if they have a starter for that particular year and model. Just a thought to try.......SS
The 454 was new in 1970, so the answer is no. Prior to that the 396 and 427 were around but I don't think that early. The big engine would have been the 409 in '62 which was a completely different motor.
as i remember the 396 and 427 showed up around 64 or 65. as for your car its as bjm says 409. easy to tell, look at the valve cover if it has a W shape to it its a 409 or a 348. you will need the motor numbers to tell as they both look the same.

Well, I don't know if GM had started switching engines among divisions yet, But I had a 1970 Buick Estate Wagon with a 454 in it. Rochester 4-bbl and auto Dynaflow transmission. Three seats in a row and it was ENORMOUS.
