Re: Car comments

If Toyota made a boat, I would be standing in line with my checkbook ready.

Now, lets get back on topic before this gets shut down. ;)

They did, and it was less than impressive, so they quit.

Re: Car comments

Actually the reason that Toyota's are a more quality vehicle than the domestics is that the companies in Japan started practicing Kaizen after WW2, and it helped them to get their economy back on track much quicker than any other country damaged by the war. Kaizen is continuous quality improvement, and it negates any extra R&D undertaken by a company that for many years thought the American people had no other choice but to buy their crappy boats (huge cars).

I would suggest looking at some of the foreign cars (the only ones produced in the US) and going for some test drives. We just bought a Nissan Sentra and despite the previously mentioned horror story we have had great luck so far. We love the car. With your back problems I would look at the Murano instead. The best tip I can give anyone car searching is to spend the $30 or so that it cost to join consumer reports and do your research. Many cars will be good for a test drive, but not the long haul. Additionaly consumer reports can tell you exactly what the dealers have to pay for the car as well as any dealer incentives currently running. This can save a bundle when it comes time to negotiate. Above all, the car must work for you and nobody else! I have heard that Jeep has problems with the fan or the vent switcher thing (very technical I know) in the heating and air system. They tend to go out after 50 or 80 thousand. Good luck!

Re: Car comments

I will add my comments without getting into the religious war other than to say I will not buy from a Gov't owned automaker. I will not support that whole situation. Ford yes, GM no..

I bought a Mazda 6i Touring 3-4 months ago. It is a 170hp 4 banger with a 6 speed manual. It is a very roomy, comfortable family sedan that is a little more fun to drive. Some complain about the seats, but I find the firmness good for my back. When I drive my Suburban long distances, my back aches. I can easily put on the miles in the mazda.

So far it has been perfect and has not been back to the shop for anything. Very good fit and finish with 7K miles on it so far..

Two additional notes:

The mazda comes very well appointed. The model I have has leather seats with cloth inserts, Sunroof, Bose stereo, Bluetooth, keyless entry and ignition, auto sensing wipers, etc.. It is also very spory looking.

The Fusion is based on the OLD mazda 6 frame.

642mx, no I didn't get to test drive a Highlander. The dealer here doesn't have one and will only bring one in on a firm order. The salesman says they don't see a market here, but he did say he would search and find a dealer with one and let me know. Hopefully it's not too far away, I hate going to Toronto for anything...far too much traffic.

Subliminal, Thanks for the thought, I will go look at an Equniox tomorrow.
