Car wheels with trailer tires, OK?

I just put new tires on my single axle trailer, (I've only had the boat 1/2 of this year). Will having car wheels [(i.e) the wheight of the trailer isn't exactly centered in the wheel, the part that bolts to the trailer is closer to the outside edge of the wheel] cause uneven wear on the tires? Thanks for any input you have.

as long as you have proper backspacing (no wheel to hub rub) you are OK. i will probably get flamed for this, but it has been my experience with small boats (under 20') a passenger tire will be OK. had them on different boats for years and no problems ever. they were always new though, not old pieces of junk.

I put 12" tires spec, for Honda civic on my 60HP 16" MFG trailer over 10 years ago and they're still going strong. I've put many miles on them too, trailer boat to and from lakes 40 mi away just about every weekend in the Summer.

If the boat and trailer weight are getting close to the maximum load capacity of the tires you can expect problems. Car tires have much softer sidewalls and heat buildup will be an issue. You may get lucky but generally this is not recommended.

I think he is saying car wheels used with trailer tires (look at the title). Annnd I think he is worried that the offset being different will cause tire wear issues. I don't think there is anything to worry about if there is no rub.

I don't there would be enough weight on a single axle trailer to affect tire wear much, as long as the bearings are in good shape.

As long and the bearings and the centerline of the wheel are close i don't see any problems.

Thanks for the replies.
Just to clarify, they are trailer tires (205/75/14 Goodyear Marathons rated at 1860 lbs - hope they last) and the gross weight of the trailer and boat is 3000 lbs.

a lot of people use Ford ranger wheels inorder to go with the wider trailer tires. so you should be good.

Ford Ranger, Bronco2, Mustang; Chevy/Toyota 6 lug rims, Jeep Cherokee....just depends on what you're lookin for....watch the weight rating and tire ply though.
