What kind of carburetor? If it is a Holley you probably have a blown power valve. When you look down the venturis, at rpm, it should appear dry.

Accelerator pumps only work when you depress the throttle. At constant throttle they do nothing.
I was not aware that Merc made carburetors.

Westdevil,

You seem to be running 2 threads on the same subject. This is confusing to people trying to help. I answered the other thread and didn't have the information you have posted here. That will have given me a very different perspective and you would have gotten a different answer.

Chris.........

sounds like you need a carb rebuild. definitely check the float level. i have the 2bbl rochester on my boat. it is not that hard to rework. according to my info, the mercarb has 1 idle adjustment screw and the rochester has two, otherwise they are identical.

ok achris60
i thought i need to change the title to get some one to answer me.
so do you think that it is the carb. i thought it was the points again, but now it looks like it might be the carb, what do you think. and how much is a kit for it. i have rebuilt carb on cars before, is it about the same.and what should i be looking for after i get it done, far as looking in to the carb

thanks

Re: carb/accelerator pump/spray or drip

Westdevil,

If you've done car carbs you're ok to do this one. No difference.

I will assume that the carb is a 2bbl Mercarb (easy to identify, has only one idle mixture screw). If it is then the kit number is :

Overhaul kit : 1397-6367

And will cost you $45.91 from Mercruiserparts.com

Chris.............

Re: carb/accelerator pump/spray or drip

yes it is a mercarb it has only one idele screw.
im going to get the kit. thanks for the part number. does it sound like the carb achirs60.
i have replace points condensor again, same thing happens.when run at 3200 rpm for a few minutes it start to boging down.but if you go to neutral, and then go back up two speed it will run for a minutie or two then boggs down. i have new gas pump on it and filters.so the only thing that i no to do is to put a kit in the carb. what about when i look down the carb and see gas drippng on both side. when this bogging down is happen. should this be happen.

thanks

Re: carb/accelerator pump/spray or drip

If the interior of the carburator looks wet with gas, at 3200 rpm, something is leaking and you are running rich. As in, IT'S FLOODING.

Re: carb/accelerator pump/spray or drip

so you are say the inside of carb should look dry at all time, and you should not see any gas at all, only if you are thorttle up. is that right.

Re: carb/accelerator pump/spray or drip

Westdevil,

Definitely worth a carb rebuild. But also check that the ignition timing is advancing correctly. If you need a timing chart I can e-mail one to you.

Chris.........
