I have recently purchased a 1979 model# 55975c Evinrude
ran it a week ago took a while to plane {to long it seems to me} i removed and cleaned the carbs found small trace amount of junk in top carb bowl fitting, replaced them engine started right up. idol needed lowered after install, my question is is there adjustments for these carbs that i am not aware off and if so what are they. my original operators manual show nothing, {diagrams welcomed}
thanks JC

Re: Carb adjustments

Did you get the main jets?
They are inside the drain plug on the float bowl, you will need a really skinny screw driver to get them out, that would certainly explain a lack of power.

Re: Carb adjustments

you have the high speed jets behind the drain screw on the bowl and the low speed at the top center, of the carb opening. you need this to get them out.

Re: Carb adjustments

set tight. not adjustable, also from the motor side on the carb look in the top of thru opening, there are 2 tiny holes that let fuel in for the low speed jet area, they have to be clear also.

Re: Carb adjustments

Hey TD, as soon as i looked at your reply i knew exactly what you were talking about, when i took the carbs apart i used 100+ air pressure to blow out all areas of interest and that was one place i shot carb cleaner and air through a couple of times thank you for your help again, look forward to talking to you again, JC
