My 1976 Evinrude 200hp was always hard to start. Consequently, it's not very dependable. On the other hand, my 1982 Evinrude with 150 hp, starts with a turn of the key. I've heard that there are different choke/primer setups on these motors that might account for this. If so, would they be interchangeable??????

It is easy to retrofit the primer system to the older motors.- Use either the bypass covers or the nipples on the carburetors.

That's certainly good to know. What would this primer system consist of? Thanks!

Used primers should be plentiful.----Also requires some hoses and fittings.-----I have installed one of these Johnson primers on an inline 6 cylinder Mercury.------If you understand how they work it is all simple.

Your 76 carbs do not have the fuel primer hose barbs that the later carbs have. It's difficult to adapt your carbs so that they have the fuel primer hose barb. As was mentioned, there were a few years 1980, 81 and 82 where the fuel primer system fed fuel to the nipples on the bypass covers. (not part of the carbs) Check out the bypass covers on your 82. If you look through marine salvage yards, you should be able to locate 6 of these covers with the brass nipples from those model years. Just plumb the fuel primer system identical to your 82, disconnect/remove your choke plates on the 76 carbs and you are in business.
