Paul, thank you. Your take on it is absolutely correct. That's is all I ever aimed to show. Plain English. Harvey

Re: carb cleaner

My father was a firm believer in Seafoam(even in the crankcase-he would add it to a warm engine, run it for 30-45 minutes, then change the oil)We started using Sta-bil on 2 and 4 strokes years ago, it wont do anything for existing deposits(does not claim too, either) but it does keep clean carbs clean.A note, if I remember correctly, Seafoam in quantity will cause a motor to produce thick, white smoke.

Scaaty, I said isopropyl alcohol. (Not a water/isopropyl alcohol mix which is bathroom/rubbing alcohol). It is known in the chemical trade as IPA and therefore is the pure ingredient - not diluted with water. I did not list IPA because no one would have known what it was!

Just thought I'd throw out a little chemical info for those who were interested. Do you take a pill from the doctor and ever want to know what it is and how it works? eh?

For the details, they did not come from me, but from the horses mouth:

You forget that lots of people read these forums. Add ALL the facts first, and a reply would not have been needed..

Re: carb cleaner

Finally, a good answer,,,my engine is a '73 50 hp evinrude 2 stroke. I'll use seafoam and try spraying it in the card while on muffs,, i may even put some in the next full tank of gas to see if it helps,,,,I have already cleaned the carbs prior to getting the engine started for the first time in fifteen years, thats how long it set withour running.
This engine runs fine i just want to prevent any more build up of carbon or anyother junk. Thanks all.

Re: carb cleaner

Spraying it down the throat of the carb won't do much since it won't go through all the tiny carb orifices. Add it to the fuel as per the de-carb procedure and you'll be glad you did.

It'll properly decarb the combustion chamber and it'll clean out your carb as much as it can.
