Hello All,

I am attempting my first go at cleaning and rebuilding the carbs on my 1990 Force Outboard 120HP. Ive already ordered 2 kits, and removed the carbs from the engine. I am looking for a video or something to help me along here. I really want to learn how to do this, just never have before. Does anyone have any tips, or ideas on where to find a video or something to guide me?

Thanks!

Are you doing this just for training and experience or are you having carburetion problem? If it's the former, I highly suggest you just do it on a salvage carb which you can easily buy online or even better if you know of a boatyard.

However, if you are having carburetion problem, you should try posting the problem/symptoms so you can get some advice from the forum.

Carb cleaning:
First thing, some pre-soaks do more damage than good.
They can melt rubber/plastic.

I use a spray carb cleaner for the real bad crusty spots.
Then I use Dawn soap and hot water to do the rest.

If?? there is a build up in the bowl, then you can bet there is crud in the air passages.
The carb has soft plugs that need removing and cleaned underneath.
These get destroyed when removing so make sure the kit contains them.

The bottom of the carb contains the jet, make sure it's clear.
Get a parts diagram and study it, that will help with assembly.
I think you can get a diagram on this site.

U-tube has a lot of good video's.

I have an old force engine that was being worked on last year by a mechanic, he gave me a list of some minor things including re-doing the carbs. Ive already removed them and disassembled them, I just want to make sure Im doing it right. This is both because it needs to be done and to learn how since Im sure Ill have to do it again. Ive been reading up, watching videos, just looking for some extra insight.

Once you clean them, make sure they don't ingest more gunk!!
Install 2 filters, #1 a water sep filter. #2 a fine particle filter between the pump and the carbs.
Fram makes a G2 G3 G12 one of these will work great.

Already have a water/fuel seperator, but I dont have a fine particle filter. Do you have a link of a good place to get one?
