Well after reading many threads here i can=me to the conclusion that my new to me 87 35 hp needed it s float changed as I can press bulb and get the carb to leak gas.It runs fine for 20 seconds then dies.I can gte it to go at higher speeds fine, but at low speeds floods out and drips gas. After changing the float still no change.Inotice that when the float rises it will hit a metal tab? Should ths tab be bent down to the float more? How do I adjust the float?:(:(

Re: carb float

The float has to be adjusted so that the pin shuts off the fuel into the carb bowl when the fuel is at the correct level. If you didn't know this or didn't do this when you replaced the float, you definately need a shop manual that contains the instructions for setting the float. The way to set the float varies with motor so that is why you need a shop manual.

Re: carb float

It is an 87 35 hp with electric start. I don't have a manual that shows this is there a site online for this?

Re: carb float

heres an easier way - turn the carb upside down and set the float so that is paralell or slightley (slightley) downward - merc techs did it this way .i do mine and everyone elses that way also . those instructions while well thought out are enough to drive you insane .
