HELP please third atempt to fix problem no success. i have a rochester 2 jet carb w hot air choke system on my 3.8 litre motor. i cant keep the engine running without pumping and pumping the throttle to keep it going in neutral. the accelerator pump is working fine, fuel pressure is perfect no restrictions to carb, and fuel filters are new. the boat ran great on the hose at the boat yard at the lake until i drove about 1 mile down the curvy bumpy road and dropped it in the water then after about 2 minutes idling at dockside it started acting as if it were running out of fuel. someone said looks like you have water in your fuel, another said points/ contacts are bad, another said coil. like i said it ran great for about ten minutes on the muffs just 10 minutes earlier. this last attempt i rechecked float lvel changed needle and seat removed and cleand the two jets and metering tubes they were clogged a bit any help is totally apreciated im depressed at my failures to resolve problem third time trying!!

Ayuh,... Man,.. That's hard to read,...
Have you ever heard of Punctuation,..??

You have Crud in the fuel system,...

Clean it Out, starting at the Tank, all the way to the carb....

Re: Carb fuel issue

Unhook the hose at the carb.Put a cup under the end and turn it over and check what's in the bowl.Unhook the coil or it might start and really throw fuel all over. You have a fuel/water seperating filter? No,then get one.Real easy to check, just spin it off and check what's inside.
Coil:start the motor, let it warm up.Then when it dies touch the coil.It should be warm but not so hot it's uncomfortable. Then replace the condenser.Good luck,J

Re: Carb fuel issue

i checked the fuel in the float bowl by pouring it into a clean glass jar. the fuel wasnt dirty, but definately water was appearent. the fuel was floating on the top. there was a very distinct denotation line of seperation between the fuel and water. SO can i remove the water from the fuel without removing all of the gas or what?

Ayuh,... Water is heavier than gas,...

Pump it off the bottom...

Re: Carb fuel issue

Get a length of hose and hook it to the tank. You will need to remove the antisiphon valve.Hook up the hose and run it out the bottom of the boat through the drain plug. Then siphon off all the water.Tilt the boat way up in the front.Makes all the water run back to the pickup.
That will get 95% of the water out.Use boat stove alcohol to absorb the rest.Or lots of dry gas.
Then install the water/fuel seperating filter. Then check it often till all the water is gone.
Next time include the make, model etc.J

Re: Carb fuel issue

went to lake casitas where boat is stored and removed all of the fuel like jerry05 said, by lifting the bow up and siphoning out. then i installed a racor fuel water seperator set my point gap to .018 specs, after about six attempts to start it started and ran all day perfectly!!!! PROBLEM SOLVED. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU. sincerely, FULL STRINGER.

Thanks for the reply and stating the fix. Most just take the info and never let be known what fixed their problem.
