Not yet....

Been raining here and I didn't feel like working under the tarp.... I have a lead on an idle screw though.:) I called an automotive machine shop and explained what I needed done and he said he has a bunch of old carbs that should have the same type of needle. If he doesn't (heading down there tomorrow) then I'll just pay for him to machine me one or two(whatever equals the minimum payment for shop labor).

I'm hoping to start it up tomorrow... supposed to be sunny.

Alright then...good deal on the needle screw. Hope it works out. Keep us posted. I would think there are a ton of marinas and carb shops that had baskets of those things laying around. Problem is, they're all probably old and worn to some degree.

I found 2 needles at a carb shop for 5 bucks but.....

I've been trying to start it for a couple hours.... cranked it until the battery gets weak then charge and crank again, and I don't see any fuel at the carb. No squirts or even a hint of it getting gas. It lost it's prime when I changed the fuel filter and rebuilt the carb but should it be THIS hard to start? Should I have filled the fuel filter canister and carb bowl with gas before hand? I've started it off carb cleaner to try to help it get a prime but still get nothing.

I'm going to try putting compressed air into the fuel nozzle/tank and see if that'll prime it. If that doesn't work I'm thinking my fuel pump may be bad.

If your fuel pump and carb are working properly, it should see gas relatively quick. In that case I wouldn't think you would need to pre-fill anything. You can crack the filter fitting in the carb after trying to start it and see if there is pressure. If there is it will squirt fuel out when you crack that fitting open. If there's pressure, chances are you pump is OK...if so, then look to the carb again for the problem.

I pulled the line while cranking and all I got was a couple of fine mist drops on the can (I put the line in a can to catch the fuel). There wasn't any fuel in the can so I'm thinking it's the pump.

There are quite a few things that can keep fuel from getting to the carb.

First thing, get a can of gas and pull the line at the fuel filter and put it in the can to see if the pump is working. If the p[ump isn't pumping gas from there, replace the fuel pump. If it pumps, test the pressure or judge the volume of gas flowing out to be enuff.

Then you have to look for a clog or air leak in the fuel system.

Got the new fuel pump on today.... I ended up using an auto one with modified weep holes.

I took brass tube and tapped it into both weep holes(perfect fit) and used JB weld to seal them.... then ran the two lines to a "t" which runs back up to the carb.

Gonna crank it tomorrow.:)

Update:

Still wouldn't prime after trying compressed air through the filler and vacuum via drill pump at the main fuel line....

So I pulled the hatch and found about 4 gallons of gas OUTSIDE the tank.

Turns out the rubber fuel line going from the tank was leaking...

I didn't see it at first since it was leaking between the bulk heads.

Gonna throw a fuel line on it tomorrow and try again.

Is there a special grade of rubber fuel line I need for marine use? I noticed that the old line/hose was only 3/8" inner diameter but it was about 3/4" outside diameter. Where can I find a line like that? The hardware stores lines are only something like 1/2"-5/8" outside diameter.
